Institutional logos

Mainstream Logos
The largest mainstream companies are all owned by the big 6 conglomerates; Time Warner, Disney Studios, NBC, Sony Pictures, Fox and Paramount. Within these six conglomerates, they have their main companies create the biggest films and are the most well-known around the globe. Each of these are:

Warner Brothers:

Walt Disney Pictures

Universal (NBCUniversal):

Columbia (Sony Entertainment)

20th Century Fox -  (Fox Entertainment)
  -

- Paramount (Paramount Pictures)

These six companies are the leading film producers in the mainstream category, all there logos are well-known around the globe and can be distinguished even if the companies name is not with it. This is because of the originality around the images / logo (none of them are alike and are all very different which allows them to be remembered). This is something my media company should think about when creating our logo to make it memorable.
In terms of independent companies, the logos are not as famous as many independent films do not make it that famous, however we should also look at them to see what the logos look like to help us when creating our own. A good example of an independent film company is Film4, here is their logo:

This shows, as I said before, how logos are all quite memorable; this logo is very simple, having the name incorporated into the logo and having a combination of simple shapes and writing that will be easily remembered. This is something my group (Gecko Productions)  can take when creating our own logo for our media company.
